Ford India’s “Figo” causes sales to treble

American automaker Ford Motors reported an over three-fold jump in its March sales at 9,478 units due to its its newly-launched hatchback Figo getting a good response. Ford Figo, for India only

Ford’s factory in Chennai, south India currently has the capacity to produce 100,000 vehicles per year and is being upgraded in a $500 million investment to be able to double production to 200,000 units annually.

The Figo features a “large mouth” front bumper, sporty alloy wheels pushed to car’s four corners, squared off rear end and subtle rear spoiler. Despite its compact size, the Ford Figo has a spacious interior with plenty of room for both passengers and cargo thanks to its taller roofline and more upright stance. Ford feels that this is the perfect car to combat Tata Nano. According to Ford the Figo is right-sized for the Indian market, “which is predominated by congested urban driving conditions.”
